Economics - Faculty & Staff

Sujata Saha

  • Associate Professor of Economics, Asian Studies Program Chair

Dr. Sujata Saha joined Wabash College in 2017. Her primary research interests are in the areas of International Finance and Trade, Open Economy Macroeconomics and Financial Inclusion, and as a researcher she investigates hot button issues that have significant effects on a macroeconomic level. As a teacher, she gets to introduce new and applicable concepts to the students that change and shape the way they think. Her goal is to make Economics more interesting for her students so that they can achieve higher goals in life. At Wabash, she regularly teaches Principles of Economics, the Global Economy, Financial Markets and Institutions, the Economics of Asia, International Trade, Investments and Senior Seminar (on Financial Crises). She has taught a Freshman Tutorial course on Global Tourism in Fall 2019. She loves teaching and it enhances her ability to present ideas clearly to a large set of individuals with diverse background.

She was a volunteer at the Make a Difference – Wisconsin, where she has taught Personal Finance to high school students. Apart from teaching at University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, she has taught Economics and Statistics courses at University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, and have also been part of the Upward Bound program at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, where she has tutored high school students in Math and Science. She considers herself extremely lucky doing what she gets to do, and she hopes to continue to do it for as long as she can.

In her spare time, Dr. Saha loves to cook different kinds of food and she loves to eat. Cooking relaxes her, it gives her the outlet to recharge so that she can get back to work and come up with solutions that had previously not occurred to her (a lot of her “eureka” moments generally happen when she cooks, plus she gets a lovely meal at the end of it, so it is truly a win-win scenario). She also likes to explore new places and meet new people. She has visited a few cities in the U.S. (her goal is to visit all the states and get fridge magnets from each). She is also interested in gardening. Finally, she likes to paint and in fact, has a Diploma Degree in Painting, but she hasn’t devoted time to it since she graduated from high school. But picked it up again since Summer 2020, and she is loving it.
